Recovery, Resilience, Resurgence

December 14, 2021 - September 30, 2022

WHAT
This retrospective exhibition of over 80 photographs focuses on everyday life in Hong Kong in successive periods around the middle of the 20th century. From the post-war recovery of 1946-1947, to its resilience of the 1950s, to its resurgence of the 1960s to 1970s, the three photographers highlight the dramatic changes that took place in Hong Kong. German photographer Hedda Morrison documented lifestyle, trade, crafts, landscape, religious practices, and architecture. Hong Kong-based New Zealand photographer Brian Brake created highly-crafted, narrative photography. Singaporean self-taught photographer Lee Fook Chee shot scenes of Hong Kong in the 1950s, with the objective of selling the pictures to tourists.
