Presence/Absence
WHAT WE KNOW
American artist, Bruce Nauman, is regarded as one of the key figures of contemporary art. You may know him as the artist behind those flashing neon signs at modern art museums, but his practice spans a surprisingly large range – from sculpture to video, and from printmaking and photography to performance. ‘I’ve never been able to stick to one thing,’ Nauman said once in an interview.
WHY WE LOVE IT
Of the many things that Nauman is known for, video recordings of himself performing a multitude of different actions have proven extremely popular, and these videos are showcased in the present exhibition. The works exhibited explore the relationship between everyday physical tasks and art, as well as concepts such as the fragility of perception.
