WHAT
The artists explore the reciprocal and ambiguous relationship between photography and painting in this exhibition, showcased in the gallery’s new Hong Kong space. Although from different backgrounds, the artists both use painting as their tool of expression. The difference comes from their individual creative approaches. Li utilises photography, digital calligraphy, drawing, and painting, while Yoo uses collage and oil painting with the sense of photo imagery. Each artist’s works contain elements of their own life experiences, philosophies, traditional painting techniques, and self-invented creative methods.

WHY
Li’s method for this exhibition is a fruit borne of the pandemic. During his time at home, the artist used Google Maps to see the rest of the world. He drew hyper-realistic negative images of photos from the platform, subsequently photographing his drawings to recreate the images. On the other hand, Yoo produces works up to three metres long by selecting online images that excite him. During this process, the artist perceives his world through a computer screen. Audiences will get to experience the results of both creative processes in this tech-savvy exhibition.
