Old Master Q
WHAT
The retrospective exhibition is a celebration of over 60 years of the iconic Hong Kong ‘Old Master Q’ (OMQ) art comics. Started in 1960, the series was first created by the artist’s father, Alfonso Wong, who used the pseudonym of Wong Chak. The artist is thus the second generation author of the (present) comic series, and he shares unique insights into his amazing artistic journey through the exhibition.
WHY
The contemporary artist has transformed the Hong Kong comic series into a brand name, and ushered it into the 21st century. Back in the 1960s, the series was only published in local newspapers and magazines, with a grassroots audience; today the artworks borne of the comic series are auctioned at Sotheby’s and Christie’s, transforming the brand into an international one.
