Huguette Caland: Les années parisiennes (1970-1987)
WHAT
Huguette Caland (1931-2019), a pioneering figure in Lebanon’s Golden Sixties, is celebrated for her bold, fluid, and experimental approach to art. This exhibition focuses on her most significant works from the 1970s to 1980s, including paintings, drawings, and sculptures, with a special emphasis on her “Bribes de corps” series. The show brings together nearly fifty major pieces, offering a rare glimpse into Caland’s dynamic creative journey.
WHY
This exhibition is an essential rediscovery of Caland’s innovative artistry, offering a fresh perspective on her playful yet profound exploration of the body, identity, and abstraction. It invites audiences to engage with a body of work that resonates powerfully with contemporary themes, highlighting the complexity and boldness of an artist whose influence extends far beyond the Lebanese art scene. Additionally, this exhibition will be the occasion for a talk at Mennour in January 2025 and a book edited by Sylvie Patry and Léo Rivaud Chevaillier will be published.
