WHAT

Conceived and realised as a large-scale interdisciplinary art installation by internationally acclaimed visual artist, Jennifer Wen Ma, a stunning immersive sculptural landscape is created through a fusion of innovative and cutting-edge contemporary techniques. The artist’s honeycomb-structured paper sculpture technique combines laser cutting with traditional Chinese art forms, philosophy, and aesthetic theory and practice, such as literati landscape painting, classical garden design, and the Book of Rites, allowing the modern viewer to traverse between multiple artistic disciplines.

WHY

Inspired by the shape of the Macau peninsula and the ever-changing landscape around it, viewers may be surprised to find that the sculptural landscape takes the form of the three islands of Macau. Come see how fascinating the region’s Lingnan landscape can be in different seasons and times of year. From green to pink, the installation not only depicts the seasons of spring and summer, but also reflects the changing nature, incorporating the principles of the Five Elements. The sculpture invites you to immerse yourself in the vivid vista of the paper gardens, evoking the viewer’s sense of the land reviving in spring, with an abundance of flowers nestled in the verdant landscape.
