You Will Be Remembered.
WHAT
Acclaimed for her deep exploration of basic configurations, diverse expressive practices, and experimentation with mediums, the California-based American artist conveys her felt concerns through the interdependent form and content of abstract compositions. What is evident is her sustained interest, study, and admiration of quilt-making techniques, stained glass constructions, and thoughtful design patterns. Her second solo exhibition in Asia is a selection of sixteen colourful and vibrant paintings, which project the power of mid-twentieth century jazz recordings (and music inspired by them) into the future.
WHY
Millett listened to the selected music over days and weeks, and she read the thoughtful writings about them. Subsequently, she created a body of buoyant abstract paintings that fully participate in the encounter between jazz and writing inspired by it. In effect, she hosted a listening party across time and space. There is even a Spotify playlist full of inspiring jazz pieces to accompany this show, which was curated by Jacqueline Francis.
