William Lim: Willows Dark Flowers Bright
WHAT
Most people know William Lim as an award-winning architect, as well as a renowned Hong Kong collector; However, Lim is also an artist, whose talents have become well-known during the pandemic. In fact, Lim likes to introduce himself as ‘architect, artist and collector, not necessary in that order’. Focusing on large scale installations, and recently work on canvas, he has held a solo exhibition, ‘A Year of Lost and Found’ at Grotto Fine Art in 2021. His present solo show at H Queen’s is presentation of expressionistic paintings that recount his personal stories. The title, ‘Willows Dark Flowers Bright’, is inspired by Song Dynasty Chinese poem, which alludes to the serendipity of new discoveries.
WHY
William Lim’s expert knowledge of and exposure to art have more than provided him with the foundation necessary to create his own art! As a member of AARRTT’s Editorial Committee, we cannot be more thrilled about his show! His paintings are not only cathartic, but deeply personal, and reflect an endearing and domestic side of him as a husband, father, and grandfather, as well as being a botany enthusiast. We especially love his mini-series of Monet-inspired paintings that are not only thoughtful but introspective. The non-selling exhibition is only up for 9 days, so be sure to catch this one.
William Lim is not only on the Editorial Committee of AARRTT, but is also the art expert featured in our Learn Module ‘Hong Kong Art’ series. To watch his interview, please click here.
