What Kind of Us Does Painting Need
WHAT
This group exhibition showcases thirteen global artists’ highly experimental and revealing paintings. The works explore how painting as a medium might refresh its power when confronted with challenges such as algorithm and post-conceptualism. The artists’ attempt at refreshing painting and giving it a new power captivates audiences just as much as smartphones and constantly stimulating apps do.
WHY
Curated by Xu Zhen, the exhibition begs the question of where painting stands in our new, hyperdigital world. With chatGPT, addictive algorithms, and the digitalisation of our lives, it can be daunting to think of where art fits in. Art is all over social media and the internet, but is this where it is destined to solely live in the future? The artists strive to remind viewers to look past excitement over new technologies to fully appreciate and create art.
