Weigh All Tears
WHAT
An exhibition organised in collaboration with Goodman Gallery, this is Johannesburg-based William Kentridge’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The exhibition takes its title from a new 6-metre-wide triptych with collages African maps and archival documents. Featuring hand-woven mohair tapestries that Marguerite Stephens’s weaving studio translated from the artist’s designs, the presentation weaves together history, geography, and so much more. A series of bronzes made in 2021 is also showcased.
WHY
In his fifty-year career, Kentridge has always responded to the past and how it shapes our present. His works render onto audiences an awareness of the world. With the multi-media presentation of tapestries complemented by bronze sculptures, he allows us to ponder our shared history, and to delve deeper into the universality of the human race.
