Wang Gongyi: Selected Works 2020 – 2024
November 14 - December 31
Wang Gongyi
WHAT
The respected Chinese artist (b.1946) is known for using charcoal to imbue strength in her marks, made against a background of ink, watercolour and acrylic. Presenting 11 important works created between 2020-2024, the artist’s 4th exhibition at the gallery features the artist’s wild cursive calligraphy and her iconic ‘Winsor Blue’ series and ‘Leaves of Grass’ series.
WHY
The artist brings new life to her recollections of natural landscapes, characterised by an agitated yet unrestrained energy that defies our idealised memories of nature as a soft and subdued realm. Featured in Centre Pompidou’s ‘Women Artists of the 20th Century’ programme 2 years ago, this is an artist who has made a mark in art history.
