WHAT
As part of a two-part series, Javier Calleja showcases his works in congruence with Joseph Kosuth in his newest exhibition at the gallery. Malagan-born and of Spanish heritage, the artist has been known throughout his career to portray a variety of emblematic personalities, who have evolved from experimental drawings and non-traditional mediums. His characters are iconic and easily identifiable with their large doe-eyes and their disproportionate bodies, and this exhibition provides a cast of characters for the audience to peruse.

WHY
Through his works, Calleja has managed to create a cast of three-dimensional characters on his two dimensional medium. This exhibition is perfect for both children and adults, who will appreciate the works equally albeit from vastly different viewpoints. Children will be drawn to the bright colours and the cute characters; and adults will surely appreciate the dry humour lurking beneath the surface of innocence.
