The Art of Hope: New School of Paris
WHAT WE KNOW
The New School of Paris, a group of artists who became active after World War II, was part of a generation who survived the horror of war with a vivid image of life and death. To these painters, art was their utmost passion and livelihood; upon the end of the war, they fled to the city of Paris. There, they translated their fear and despair onto canvas, whilst representing – in their own unique ways – the slow revival of hope in humanity.
WHY WE LOVE IT
The most iconic New School of Paris painters, including Zao Wou-Ki (China), Nicolas de Staël (Russia), and Georges Mathieu (northern France) are presented. The shared sentiments of these artists from all around the world, along with their diverse and varying artistic techniques and backgrounds, present a comprehensive overview of the Post-WWII sentiment.
