TREVOR YEUNG: Soft breath
WHO
Trevor Yeung
WHAT
The Hong Kong artist’s solo exhibition delves into queer experiences shaping multi-species entanglements. The primary medium in the gallery includes soap, oak bark powder, mosses, essential oils, and glitters, culminating in an ambitious, large-scale replica of the ‘fuck tree’. In Yeung’s carefully staged installations, the lives of plants are a medium to address notions of normativity and control within human social relations. It evokes the fluid interplay between night and day, public and private life, and hidden and visible desires.
WHY
The use of light, scent, and meticulous craftsmanship creates a unique sensory experience, blurring the boundaries between the natural and the artificial. The artist’s installations offer a captivating and thought-provoking perspective on humanity’s entanglements with the natural environment. The exhibition marks the artist’s first major solo exhibition of 2024 in the lead-up to his representation of Hong Kong at the 60th Venice Biennale.
