signals…storms and patterns
WHAT
This exhibition is the first to mark a new chapter in Para Site’s endeavours, as they venture into a new direction. Featuring a series of commissions and existing works along with experimental display structures, the title refers to the idea that all the works in the exhibition are modes of kinetic art that create a chain of reactions. The exhibition will unfold over three phases: ‘signals…storms and patterns’ (18 March), focusing on self-organisation and the politics of space in contemporary art-making; ‘signals…folds and splits’ (10 June), reflecting on the temporality of artworks and alternative economies of time; and ‘signals…here and there’ (12 August), exploring dispersal as a strategy to think about contemporary global issues through the lens of Hong Kong.
WHY
Curated by Billy Tang and Celia Ho, the exhibition takes inspiration from the seminal gallery and art salon, Signals London (1964–1966). It represents strategies to reconnect with the global community from the pivot point of Hong Kong in a post-pandemic world, and is conceived as an exhibition that is allowed to evolve and remain dynamic beyond its opening.
