Public Art at Tai Kwun
WHAT WE KNOW
Aside from JC Contemporary’s regular (indoor) exhibitions, outdoor public art can also be found around Tai Kwun’s ‘prison yard’, which is on the same level as JC Contemporary’s main entrance. The works and installations of 5 local and international contemporary artists are seamlessly woven into the outdoor design and architecture, and their works are presented in a variety of mediums ranging from textile and brass to stone.
WHY WE LOVE IT
More than just an art and heritage site, Tai Kwun also serves as a community and lifestyle destination. With cafés and sitting-out areas around the ‘prison yard’, we get to enjoy these contemporary art works as part of our everyday lives. Besides prompting us to ask questions about their purpose and role within Tai Kwun, they also add an element of modernity to the revitalised heritage space.
