WHAT
An acclaimed, multidisciplinary artist working in painting, large-scale murals, photography, video and sculpture, the Miami-born Brooklyn-based artist is known for his strikingly energised paintings and installations. His second solo exhibition in Hong Kong unveils 10 pulsating, intimate sized works executed during a fertile period of ‘en plein air’ painting, as well as two characteristically large-scale paintings that build upon the experimental
phenomenon of retinal closed-eye hallucinations. This forms the first part of a comprehensive exhibition that will continue at the gallery’s London location in fall 2023.
WHY
The exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the scope and depth of the artist’s artistic practice, and to experience his unique blend of urban and fine art. Through the intersection of graffiti, calligraphy and abstract expressionism, his artworks offer an abstract, visceral form of storytelling through layers of mixed media and dynamic calligraphic writing. His visual language in this exhibition is an attempt to paint outdoors, which contrasts with full of monumental canvases in his industrial studio in Brooklyn, creating mysterious, evocative landscapes of light and shadow.
