Pastorale
WHAT
As the Antiguan artist’s third solo exhibition with the gallery and the first presentation of his work in Asia, the exhibition features paintings and works on paper that exemplify the artist’s rich body of work, which encompasses a variety of media, styles, and formats, including those made on such supports as Polaroid film cartridge boxes, mosquito coil boxes, and fragments of sketchpad covers. The collection features Caribbean landscapes and small-scale paintings of Scottish meadows, painted from memory to commemorate his time there in 1960.
WHY
Through his unique use of colour and personal perspective, the artist captures the essence of the places he has lived, travelled, and imagined. The exhibition reveals a new dimension of the artist’s vast artistic oeuvre, highlighting his ability to convey immediacy and honesty as a recluse in a world of his own creation.
