WHAT
In Liu’s first solo exhibition with the gallery in Hong Kong, he presents a series of symbolic line paintings and works that are inspired by the idea of conflict, both exceeding abstractionism, while discussing the concepts of philosophy, history, and narrative. In the exhibition, the artist was inspired by the idea of ‘left’ and how it has been viewed throughout history. In his works he hopes to experience the state of extremity that comes with the idea of ‘left’, which is where inspirations rise.

WHY
Liu’s series is a collection of blue and black works, a dichotomy that represents translucency and solidity; these colours and ideas evoke the image of a variety of oceans. Clear crystal blue waters. Roaring dark waves rolling and rocking. Safety and danger. As viewers get a glimpse of Liu’s works, they find that thoughts they had never articulated before about the ocean and chaos manifest on the canvases before them.
