Mr Doodle in Love
WHAT
The exhibition marks the first solo institutional show featuring the 27-year-old British artist, born Sam Cox. Showcasing 108 paintings from collectors around the world, new paintings are also presented. The new works in the exhibition are a proclamation and documentation of Mr Doodle’s love for his wife, Mrs Doodle (aka Alena Cox), whom he married in 2021. With love as its main and only theme, the works trace the development of Mr and Mrs Doodle’s romantic journey through the use of colour, which changes from monotonous black-and-white tones to the present colourful palette.
WHY
With the subject matter revolving around Mr and Mrs Doodle’s everyday life, the exhibition is full of ‘aw’, if otherwise cheesy moments, which some audiences might appreciate. A feature section of the exhibition, ‘The Mr Doodle Living Room’ is a fun and playful immersive installation, adorned with doodled walls and furniture. Visitors can play a part by freely spacing stickers (given upon entry) around the space as a continuation of Mr Doodle’s creative process.
