WHAT
This is the first solo exhibition of the Hong Kong-based Korean photographer. Featuring photographs and videos from the artist’s decade-long experiential documentary project, the unique presentation depicts children born to interracial marriages and their mothers; it addresses concerns for their children’s identity, which varies depending on the age, level of education and the environment they grow up in.
WHY
The exhibition is a collection of personal stories that are interesting and engaging. Since 2010, the project has been inspired by the artist’s own personal experience from her interracial marriage. Documenting her own experiences increased her interest in racial awareness and the outside perceptions of bi-racial children. This topic is of particular interest in Hong Kong, which is an intersection between the West and the East that simultaneously give rise to interracial families.
