Moonlit Dancing
WHAT
Inspired greatly by his daily life – especially the warmth from his family – the artist sets out to recall, recount, and document the memories of his childhood, yet he leaves the interpretation of these images entirely up to his audience. He imbues his paintings with feelings of nostalgia, interpreted with a contemporary approach; his paintings also capture at the same time the intersection of time and place, as he weaves a time travelling journey between ancient China and modern Hong Kong.
WHY
The artist has an uncanny ability to capture moods and emotions. The scenes in his artworks are metaphors; they include the tree in his homeland, Huang Cen Ling; a village by the lake in Hunan province; the herbal tea that his sister used to brew for him; an aerolite that floats in Tong Lau; as well as the image of Eileen Chang, a legendary female Chinese author. His paintings tread between the blurred lines of reality and surrealism, memory and imagination, and they bring viewers on a journey and discovery and reflection.
