WHAT
The ‘Fill in the Space’ programme starts with a residency at Cattle Depot, and ends with this finale – a duo show with a Cattle Depot-themed exhibition at 1a space, an art space that moved twenty years ago, from its original location in an old government warehouse at Oil Street to its current location. In line with 1a space’s aims to promote the making, experimentation, exchange and dissemination of contemporary art, the exhibition recreates space by producing installations that connect with the architectural characteristics of Cattle Depot, in response to its history and transformation as a slaughterhouse to an arts village.
WHY
For first-timers, the exhibition is a good excuse to visit 1a Space and the Cattle Depot Artist Village. While Meko Cheng produces balanced and structured installations that trigger imagination, guiding the audience through discovering, observing, and entering an illusory reality, Jessica Fu uses projections to create immersive experiences in an attempt to encourage reflections on the current human condition.
