Mille Cortex

March 18, 2023 - April 21, 2023

WHAT
Inspired by the philosophical work of ‘Mille Plateaux’ by Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, the exhibition draws on the desires of younger artists to seek out newness and escape. What better way to discuss the idea than with younger artists? The exhibition features 30 works by 20 young artists from around the world who all face the inherent challenge and desire to create something new in this era of technology where nothing is a new idea.

WHY
The gallery depicts the art of painting as a way of depicting cultural DNA. Everything can be traced back to something else. Modern painting techniques can be traced to earlier cultural practices. Artists refer to past artists who refer to past artists. People in the past tried to look to the future and those of the future look to the past. In this exhibition’s exploration of the younger generations’ desires to create something new, it argues to viewers that even though new things might never be created again, each thing that is created has a lineage of influences that are a unique depiction of the cultural experience and humanity’s DNA.
