WHAT
In the British artist’s first solo exhibition in China, 20 of her works are showcased. While in the past, she has used oil sticks and pastels on unstretched canvases as her preferred form to present abstract motifs, colours, and textures, the present exhibition builds on top of that, focusing on the mouth as a central motif in her work. From presenting previously-showcased rows of teeth to a single tooth from the mouth of a friend, Jones uses the mouth in not only its physical form but as metaphors.

WHY
This new group of paintings was made specifically for the exhibition, and marks a significant development in the artist’s ongoing interest in the mouth as a central motif. While she uses the motif to present as a site of contact between a variety of realms, the interior and the exterior, the psychological and the bodily, the figurative and the metaphorical, she also encourages viewers to find their own personal resonances.
