WHAT
The respected Hong Kong-based artist (b. 1980) received training in Chinese calligraphy and ink painting from an early age, later establishing a reputation as a contemporary artist known for using mixed media. He continues to create thought-provoking art that challenges traditional ideas, and encourages dialogue about contemporary issues. The current exhibition is testament to the artist’s experimentation with Chinese ink, in particular one that focuses on culinary delights.

WHY
The solo exhibition is like a carefully planned menu, where the artist has included a selection of ‘gongbi’ paintings and calligraphy works mostly related to food. The highlight of the exhibition is an artist book titled ‘Master Chui’s Kitchen’, which shares Chui’s invaluable knowledge on materials and processes for future artists. Using wine as paints, depicting crabs delicately, and treating birds as calligraphy subjects, the exhibition showcases and even goes beyond the enticing culinary theme.
