Topography of Body
WHAT
This is Daegu-born artist’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. Her multi-media artistic and performance practice address formalistic questions of painting as well as existential issues of the human condition, such as migration, poverty, violence, and the displaced self. Her principle of ‘non-doing’ and ‘non-making’ follows an investigation of performance through modes of mobility and immobility, and inverts the notion of the artist as the predominant actor. Her exhibition features a series of textile works with indigo Indian block prints and lightboxes that call on her past works.
WHY
The artist’s works answer dual questions about painting and human existence. She discusses migration, poverty, violence, and the displaced self. The exhibition features the artist’s video and sound installation ‘Thread Routes – Chapter III’, a series of textile works with indigo Indian block prints, lightboxes recalling her critically acclaimed installations; and her most recent work using nanopolymer on glass, ‘Meta-Painting’.
