Jongsuk Yoon: Far East

March 15 - May 10

WHO

Jongsuk Yoon

WHAT
The Korean artist (b.1965) moved to Europe in the early 1990s, studying art under German conceptual artist Fritz Schwegler. This is her first exhibition in France, and the presentation highlights her colourful pictorial work, with 10 new oils on canvas and 4 gouaches on paper. The title alludes to her hometown, referencing in particular the Korean countryside where she grew up. The ethereal quality of her environs is reflected in her paintings, which convey vibrant and poetic visions of nature.

WHY
Somewhere between abstraction and figuration, the artist’s ‘landscapes of the mind’ lie at the crossroads of Western Abstract Expressionism and the Asian pictorial tradition. As she explains: ‘Each painting has a life of its own, and it’s my job to make it visible.’
