Jeux Thèmes Variations (I)
WHAT
Trained as a classical musician, the artist used to be a viola player with Hong Kong Philharmonic before devoting herself to painting in 2011. Using her music background, her first solo exhibition with the gallery incorporates musical elements and allows audiences to experience a new way of appreciating music and art. Her ‘Mist’ series is inspired by the subtle changes of sea mist, where the rhythm of water and moisture are expressed with repeated and precise folding patterns on rice paper. The ‘Ostinato’ black and white series is further inspired by the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt (1923-2012)’s ‘Canto Ostinato’.
Affiliated with the French May, the exhibition is the first in 2 parts, with the subsequent viewing at Alisan Fine Arts Aberdeen from 13 May to 30 June, 2023. Click here for more information.
WHY
With her background in music, the way the artist ‘composes’ painting is how she imagines a musician reading a music score. Audiences will find that the musical elements in her works allow them new ways to experience music and art by visually manifesting images, forms, and patterns of sound vibrations. The opening on 3 May features a live performance by flautist Megan Sterling; followed by a mini concert on 7 May at 3:30pm.
