ZHENG CHONGBIN: Immeasurable Things
WHO
Zheng Chongbin
WHAT
As one of China’s preeminent young experimental ink painters in the 1980’s, the artist embraces the concept of a constantly evolving world, characterised by the continual coalescence and dissipation of matter and energy. His art systematically explores and deconstructs both classical Chinese ink traditions and Western pictorial abstraction conventions. The current exhibition sees Zheng transforming the expansive gallery space into an immersive and dynamic realm through his intricate and luminous light installation, which incorporates layered video projections, aluminium, scrim, screens, vinyl sheets, mirrors, and glass.
WHY
By employing various mediums, the artist’s paintings vividly portray natural processes, transcending mere visual stimulation. Through the interplay of light, air, space, movement, and time, he invites the audience on a captivating journey of discovery and reflection, encouraging them to perceive themselves as integral parts of a dynamic and ever-changing world. His installation delves into the essence of life’s fluidity and explores the immeasurable dimensions of human existence.
