Hernan Bas: The First and the Last
WHAT
The well-known Miami-based American artist’s 6th solo exhibition draws inspiration from the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris. Step into a darkly humourous world, where the absurd meets the divine and where the roles of winners and losers are reversed. Following the exhibition, ‘The Conceptualists’, at the Bass Museum in Miami, the artist wanted to take a more light-hearted approach and pay tribute to the magnificent losers he is so fond of.
WHY
The artist explores vibrant image creation through photographic montages. The celebration of underdogs is presented with a light-hearted touch, encouraging viewers to reflect on the fragility of life and the nuances of human relationships. By showcasing drawings as standalone works for the first time, the spotlight is on
experimentation with Paul Gauguin’s transfer technique.
