Freddie Mercury
WHAT>Brian Rochefort’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong is inspired by his 2018 trip to East Africa, specifically to Tanzania and Zanzibar. During this trip, the artist saw Freddie Mercury displays and discovered that Mercury had a unique background and diverse history, which started with his birth in Tanzania. Inspired by Freddie Mercury not only as a person, but as an iconic public figure, the exhibition explores the themes of pushing the limits on traditional mediums.
WHY
While Freddie Mercury is best known for being the lead singer of the band, Queen, this exhibition is so much more than being just about Freddie Mercury or Queen. Viewers are invited to join Rochefort on his personal journey of travel and discovery throughout East Africa. They get a chance to see how the artist has embodied the concept of pushing the limits and boundaries through his memories of Freddie Mercury, Tanzania, and Zanzibar.
