Francis Picabia: Éternel recommencement / Eternal Beginning

January 18 - March 12
Francis Picabia

WHAT
The French artist (1879–1953) was a pioneering figure in the development of Dada and Surrealism, and is known for his restless exploration of diverse artistic styles throughout his career. The exhibition is a major solo presentation of over 40 of his post-war artworks, created between 1945 and 1952. It will be the first to focus exclusively on his final period, when he moved away from his famous wartime Nudes to embrace non-figurative art, exploring new textures and abstract visual languages that distinguish these works from his earlier creations.

WHY
The artist’s bold shift in direction with his later works broke new ground in the post-war art scene. Curated by Beverley Calté and Arnauld Pierre in collaboration with the Comité Picabia, visitors will gain insight into the artist’s pivotal role within the vibrant Parisian art world and the emergence of art informel. The exhibition then travels to New York from 1 May – 25 July 2025.
