Fire
WHAT
The Prix Pictet is the world’s leading prize for photography and sustainability. Its focus is to harness the power of photography to draw global attention to critical sustainability issues that threaten humanity and the planet. This year’s theme of the award is Fire. Inspired by the destruction fire has wrought on our planet in the past year from wildfires, the award focuses on how fire is a defining character of destruction. This exhibition features the work of the artists who were nominated and showcases a vision of not only what has been but what is to come.
WHY
Over 600 photographers were nominated by the network of nominates and 13 artists were ultimately shortlisted. Eventually in December 2021, Sally Mann was announced as the 9th Prix Pictet laureate. In this exhibition, audiences have the opportunity to see the works of the nominees all the way up to the laureate and to see how fire can be the bringer of life but also the author of terrifying destruction within the same breath.
