Extended Figure: The Art & Inspiration of Lalan
WHAT WE KNOW
Born Xie Jing-lan, Lalan was an iconic and pioneering figure in integrated art. She received professional vocal training, and found her passion in composition and dance, channelling her skills, passions, and inspirations into an art form called integrated art. Commemorating the centennial of her birth, the 32 masterpieces and archival works threw light on many aspects of her life, both professionally and personally.
WHY WE LOVE IT
The exhibition chronicles Lalan’s growth as an artist, and visitors really get to experience the full breadth of her talents as a pioneer of integrated art. Not only did she cross disciplines, but she succeeded in merging eastern sensibilities with western art practices to establish a unique form of abstract expression. The well-curated exhibition is the 1st major retrospective of the artist in Hong Kong, and focused on her as an artist in her own right, and not only as the first wife of Zao Wou-ki.
