WHAT WE KNOW
With a background in Chinese ink painting, Taiwanese artist Wu Chi-Tsung dedicates his practice to experimenting with traditional methods. Entranced by the relationship between light and time, Wu began experimenting with cyanotype, a photographic technique that involves soaking traditional Xuan paper in a photo-sensitive solution, crumbling them, then exposing them to sunlight. With the desired patterns created by sun exposure, Wu subsequently reworks the pieces as shanshui landscapes in collage form.
WHY WE LOVE IT
Curated by Ying Kwok, this exhibition focuses on Wu’s Cyano-Collage and Wrinkled Texture collections, both of which are his recent works from 2021. These large-scale pieces engulf the audience from a far, but at the same time, their intricate texture draws your close. To pair with this show, Galerie du Monde also filmed an insider’s look into Wu’s studio, which you can find here.
