Eva Jospin: Chambre de soie
WHAT
Inspired by the Embroidery Room of the Palazzo Colonna in Rome and Virginia Woolf’s novel, ‘A Room of One’s Own’, the exhibition features one unique artwork – a feat of embroidery. Its 350 m2 (3767 sq. ft.) landscape was produced by craftsmen in India, in constant dialogue with the artist, and showcases Jospin’s favorite themes: nature, strolling, and architectural follies. The artwork was previously presented at the Dior Fall-Winter 2021-2022 haute couture fashion show.
WHY
The embroidery masterpiece is a technical and artistic feat. Produced by artisans from the Chanakya workshop and the Chanakya School of Craft in Mumbai, the artwork transforms a wall of the Orangery into an enchanting forest landscape. With over 400 shades of silk, cotton, and jute, each stroke of the artist’s drawing is transfigured into thread, creating an installation reminiscent of 19th-century panoramas.
