WHAT
As one of the highly anticipated programmes of Swire Properties Arts Month 2024, two site-specific monumental installations by the Portuguese artist are showcased. ‘Enchanted Forest’ and ‘Valkyrie Seondeok’ respond to the city and the community, inviting dialogue on themes such as the empowerment of women, consumerism, and personal and societal identity. The artist skillfully channels old techniques into contemporary art practice, creating these awe-inspiring installations themed around sewing, knitting, and crocheting.

WHY
The sculptures took a team of 60 people 6 months to complete, marking it as Vasconcelos’s first fully immersive work that connects visitors with the giant sculptures in Hong Kong. Meanwhile, ‘Valkyrie Seondeok’ is a towering textile sculpture that pays homage to Seondeok, the second female sovereign. The artist weaves a captivating mythological fantasy that immerses visitors and prompts them to reflect on the artwork in relation to its environment.
