Dust That Rides the Wind

March 3, 2023 - May 15, 2023

WHAT
The exhibition is a systematic research on the artist’s material and conceptual language developed from a geologist’s perspective, in which she extracts and transforms earth and colour. The artist provides a way of perceiving colour and art beyond modern norms, introducing a discussion of the constantly-changing meaning that colours carry and the ideologies behind them, where colour serves as a gateway to matter. The methodology of colour is condensed in smaller pieces – through the origin and migration, character and history of pigments, material changes of the planet, and the development of the chemical industry.

WHY
The artist’s painting practice begins with the history of migration – the methodology concerning geological changes and the transformation of pigments. The railroads and volcanoes serve as prominent motifs in the paintings, each representing a specific landscape. Movement and migration are not only the threads connecting the subjects, but also are manifested as momentum and kinetic energy in the pictures. Audiences will be intrigued by the complex works’ exploration of colour and nature.
