Double Ducks
WHAT
The Dutch artist was first inspired by a world map and a rubber duck to create his giant inflatable Rubber Duck installation, which he then took on a world tour in 2007. Starting from the Netherlands, his Rubber Duck travelled to twelve locations across four continents before making its way to Hong Kong in 2013, becoming the artist’s most prominent exhibition to date. This time around, audiences are treated to not one, but two Rubber Ducks. Like the symmetrical Chinese characters “囍” (happiness) and “朋” (friends), together they symbolise the prosperity of partnership, friendship, and double happiness.
Stay tuned for more details for how long the installation will stay on at Victoria Harbour!
WHY
Brought to Hong Kong by AllRightsReserved, this year is the 10th anniversary of Rubber Duck’s first visit to Hong Kong in 2013. The 18-metre tall ‘Double Ducks’ return as a duo this time, and they are sure to put a smile on everyone who sees them, adults and children alike. Hofman’s free-wheeling imagination of child-like wonder inspires people to take a break from their mundane daily lives, and to connect with one another, conveying the positive message of friendship and engagement.
