Death of Ying
WHO
Yang Bodu
WHAT
The Beijing-based contemporary Chinese artist’s second solo exhibition at the gallery transports viewers into enigmatic sanctuaries of expansive interiors and architectural marvels. The 8 atmospheric paintings highlight moments of theatricality and an ‘abstract atmosphere’. The title of the exhibition references the final moment of life’s embrace, encapsulating the intertwining elements of fear and bravery, peculiarity and familiarity that lie at the core of human existence.
WHY
The artist’s paintings are allegories that weave elements of romance and pain, as well as relentless pursuit and unyielding stubbornness. The artist has an uncanny talent for shrouding her works in mystery and enigma. Each piece has a story to tell, whether it alludes to Marilyn Monroe or the Marabar Caves in India.
