WHAT
The Badung based artist collective presents paintings, lenticular prints, performative sculptures, installations, and videos in this exhibition, exploring the significance of the digital economy and the intersection of play and labour. Many of the multi-media pieces include depictions of Twitter hashtags in various forms, while other works depict the relationship between leisure and labour in social media. By channelling infrastructural elements into aesthetic forms, the collective examines how people are used and alienated in society, envisioning alternative ways that we can partake in leisure.
WHY
The collective finds personal and intimate aspects in data and statistics, revealing the infrastructure of social media and how it produces simulated joy. This goes along with the collective’s engagement with the notion of hyperreality in our digital age. Their multi-media projects, which have been exhibited worldwide, explore the relationship between the virtual and physical worlds, depicting how digital media influences society’s perception of our surroundings. Interested viewers are sure to enjoy this exploration of such a relatable topic, now showcased at the gallery’s Aberdeen gallery.
