Contemplations
WHAT
The Tokyo-born artist originally started out as a designer and after a lengthy career, he picked up photography and created his first series in 2008. Almost a decade and a half later, his newest exhibition presents 32 images from around the world, from Japan to California to Scotland. Throughout his career, he has placed a focus on forests and trees as symbols of peace and this theme continues on in his newest exhibition.
WHY
Shikama presents Earth’s natural beauty through the theme of forests, from Japan to Yosemite National Park to the Isle of Skye. It allows for the idea that hyperinnovation is not the only creator of beauty. With their vintage hues, Shikama’s photographs evoke a feeling of nostalgia, and in fact acknowledges the delicate rapport between humans and nature.
