Chiharu Shiota: The Soul Trembles
WHAT
The respected Japanese artist (b.1972) is renowned for her large-scale installations of interlacing wool yarn, as well as her ability to blend everyday objects into monumental, dreamlike creations, where she explores themes of temporality, movement, and dreams. Her solo show marks a preview of the reopening of the iconic Grand Palais. It offers an immersive experience with over 1,200 square metres of installations, photographs, drawings, and performance videos, spanning over two decades of the her career.
WHY
The exhibition is co-organised with the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo, and is the largest ever dedicated to Shiota in France. The immersive installations, combined with performance videos and other works, invite the audience to engage both physically and mentally with the complex themes of time, memory, and existence. It offers an in-depth look at Shiota’s evolving practice, making it a must-see for art enthusiasts and those captivated by the intersection of art and the subconscious.
