Basquiat, Haring, Scharf
WHAT
The large-scale group exhibition celebrates the work and friendship of three American icons: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring and Kenny Scharf. The show comprises around 40 artworks that explore the vernacular and radical artistic dialogue pulsating between the trio in New York’s East Village during the late 1970s and early 1980s.
WHY
If you’re a fan of American street art and pop culture, don’t miss this exhibition! With pictorial vocabularies, powerful spirit and contrasting colours, the show explores how the three artists approach street art and culture through their personal and unique creative processes. Basquiat’s street art and Neo-Expressionist style challenge perceptions and provoke dialogues, empowering audiences to think critically about societal issues; Keith Haring’s mural works, iconic motifs and pop graffiti techniques respond to contemporary social events of his time; Kenny Scharf’s practice spans painting, sculpture, fashion, video, performance art, and street art, and transcends the elite boundaries of fine art to connect with popular culture.
