A Mirage of a Shining City
WHAT
In this exhibition by two well-known local Hong Kong artists, both present their love for the city and show how different perspectives can be despite their different backgrounds and environments. The theme of the exhibition is the perspective of light in a city and how it penetrates time, culture, and history, transforming the urban landscape. Both artists shape this theme by presenting juxtaposed works, Chow showcasing the night, and Wong presenting the day.
WHY
Chow is known for an artistic style that seeks inspiration from old photos and films, capitalising on the feeling of nostalgia. He plays off the theme of light by focusing on the artificial neon lights that are scattered around Hong Kong, alighting even the darkest times of the night. Wong is known for his landscape paintings where he ventures into depicting the beauty of Hong Kong’s natural beauty during the day, depicting bright and vivid colours. Both come together to display what is literally Hong Kong by night and day, showcasing their shared love for the city.
