WHAT
Presenting the Italian-born artist in his first Hong Kong solo exhibition, the gallery showcases 14 new paintings, all completed in 2023 – from Clemente’s series of the same name, exploring the themes of resilience, presence, and pleasure. The series emerged from a collaboration with the artist’s wife of nearly 5 decades, when she brought to his New York studio flowers amidst the gloomy winter. The artist’s works are shaped by his experiences in life and specifically his times living not only in Italy but also in India and New York.

WHY
This particular series – each painting a large square format – features abundant displays of colour, texture, and form. Rhythmic compositions of petals, leaves, stamen, and seed pods move between abstraction and figuration. While the flower has been used in traditional vanitas paintings to represent impermanence and the inevitability of decay, the artist depicts blossoms to celebrate the beauty that can be found in all stages of life.
