WHAT
Iranian-born and New York City-based, this is the artist’s solo exhibition debut in Asia. Linked with the Miguel Abreu Gallery in New York City, Raissnia is known for her emphasis on photography focusing on 16mm film and grainy effects on imagery. Her inspiration comes from her late father who was an amateur photographer who avidly recorded the events of the Iranian Revolution, around the time she was born. As a result, audiences are able to appreciate Raissnia’s works today.
WHY
Featuring works from 2019 until now, this exhibition is perfect for those interested in unique forms of photography. Considering this is her first solo exhibition in Asia, it’s an opportunity for a new audience yet to discover her works. It is especially enticing to the newer generations who have discovered the beauty of old photographs made with 35mm lenses. With her desire for grainy textures and 16mm films, Raissnia’s works will speak to those people.
