WHAT
In this exhibition curated by Cusson Cheng, multiple artists search for an alternative approach to reimagine the political potential of celebrity culture through the lens of fandom. Fandom culture is quickly becoming a large part of popular culture coming from and based in Southeast and East Asia and pop culture’s influence on the modern day political landscape is becoming more and more documented. Each of the 15 artists create works that are acts of creation and critical thinking to speak about the shifts in the modern world.

WHY
Pop culture is something most, if not all, people are engaged with or exposed to whether they like it or not. Within this intersection, the exhibition repositions the concept of fandom to explore its evolution in relation to shifts among media, technology, and geopolitical change. An elixir of pop cultural offerings that provides outlets from the hardships of our daily life, the exhibition prompts the audience to realise the potent political power behind these fanatical desires and employ them to make sense of our polarised world.
