A 10,000-Year View
WHAT
The exhibition is a site-specific art installation by the Chinese artist. Having studied in both China and San Francisco, Zheng is now based in both San Francisco and Shanghai, which has shaped his art style immensely. Many of his works feature the intersection of traditional Chinese ink painting, modern western art, and new media. In this exhibition, he was inspired by the spatial perspective and scenery of HKMoA, and he uses lighting and shade as well as multi-media to connect the scene of Victoria Harbour and HKMoA to the past, present, and future.
WHY
With his diverse education and background, Zheng employs a mix of perspectives that lend themselves well to create unique interesting pieces of art that appeal to viewers. This exhibition is all about visual perception and the layers rendered possible by the use of lighting and shade, in order to create a past, present, and future. In doing so, Zheng succeeds in creating a dialogue across time, space, mediums, and cultures.
